Chelsea have reinforced their frontline for the upcoming 2026/27 campaign by finalizing the acquisition of veteran forward Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 35-year-old former England international has penned a two-year deal at Stamford Bridge for an undisclosed amount, following a stellar season with the Seagulls in which he netted 14 goals over 40 matches. Welbeck’s arrival serves as a key component in manager Xabi Alonso’s ongoing roster makeover.
Beyond his tactical versatility, the seasoned striker is expected to bring crucial mentorship and depth to a youthful Blues squad.
What did Danny Welbeck say concerning his move to Chelsea?
“The drive to compete at the highest level is still very much there,” Welbeck remarked following the announcement. “I’m fully committed to giving my all for Chelsea and pushing this team toward silverware.”
With an extensive Premier League resume featuring stints at Manchester United, Arsenal, Watford, and Brighton, Welbeck offers a level of top-flight experience that Chelsea management views as priceless.
Fan reaction to the move has been divided. While some supporters are skeptical about offering a multi-year deal to a player in his mid-30s, others welcome his proven work ethic and reliability as a ideal buffer for the team’s younger talent.
