Chelsea has officially appointed Xabi Alonso as its new manager on a four-year contract, with the Spaniard set to start work at Stamford Bridge on July 1, 2026. The announcement came via Chelsea’s official website on Sunday, May 17, 2026, just 24 hours after the Blues’ FA Cup loss to Manchester City.
What did Xabi Alonso Say?
Alonso expressed immense pride in his decision, calling Chelsea one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear we share the same ambition,” Alonso stated. “We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies… Now the focus is on hard work, building the right culture, and winning trophies.”
